World’s Weirdest Post Box Locations

Jan 25, 2022 | Uncategorized

Do you know where the weirdest post box in the world is? Strange question to ask I guess. Anyway, I certainly didn’t, at least until I did some research for this blog post. It turns out that there are some pretty strange post boxes out there, located in some very odd places. From a post box made of ice, to one inside a tree, to one on a train, we will explore 8 of the weirdest post boxes around the world. You’re finally going to find out something you’ve wanted to know since at least 4 sentences ago, prepare to be amazed, and trying not to mash your keyboard with your dropped jaw as you gaze at the screen in wonderment at these peculiar post boxes.

1. On a Train in the UK

The first stop on our tour of weird post boxes is a post box that is actually located on a train! This post box can be found on the Jacobite Steam Train, which runs from Fort William to Mallaig in Scotland. The train makes several stops along the way, and passengers can mail letters or postcards from the train. How fun does that sound? “Not fun at all”, you say? Shut up then!

2. In a Tree in Germany

Next up is a post box that is located inside a tree! This unique post box can be found near the town of Titisee-Neustadt, in the Black Forest region of Germany. The post box is made from a section of the tree trunk, with a mail slot carved into it. Don’t confuse it with any none post box trees nearby, or you’ll likely just be popping your post in some woodlands critter’s living room.

3. On an iceberg in Greenland

This next post box is definitely one of the most unique and unusual ones on our list. This crazy box is carved into an iceberg, and it can be found in the town of Ilulissat, in Greenland the apparent iceberg capital of the world. This post box was created as part of an art project. Bonus mention goes to a huge post box in the same town that delivers exclusively to the North Pole and its most famous resident, Gemma Collins. I’m joking it’s Santa.

4. On a Beach in Australia

Next up is a post box that can be found on a beach! This post box is located on the beach near the town of Lennox Head, in New South Wales, Australia. The seaside village is home to pretentious tourists who hang glide and play Wonderwall around a campfire. These no-hopers can post requests for bank transfers to their parents without even taking off their wetsuits thanks to this letterbox.

5. Made of Ice in Norway

This next post box is made of ice, and it can be found in the town of Rjukan, in Norway. Another one that was created as part of an art project, perhaps it’s time for some new ideas?

6. On a Mountain in Switzerland

This letterbox is located on a mountain, and it can be found in the town of Zermatt, in Switzerland. This post box is actually located inside a church so please don’t post your Lovehoney returns here, especially not during mass.

7. On a Gondola in Venice, Italy

This next post box is definitely one of the most unique and unusual ones on our list. It’s located on a gondola and can be found in the watery city of Venice, in Italy. Again, another product of an art project, please artists, let’s give this letterbox thing a rest, eh?

8. On a Cliff Edge in Ireland

This next post box is located on a cliff edge, and it can be found in the town of Howth, in Ireland. This post box is actually located inside a lighthouse, so it’s not super useful for anyone but the lighthouse keeper.

So there you have it – you rolled up for a magical mystery tour of letterboxes and you got it. If you know of any weirder ones, do get in touch, if we get enough we might even have to return for a second world tour!
