What’s happening?
Royal Mail’s 115,00+ staff, represented by the Communications Workers Union (CWU), have been taking part in industrial action since August last year, which caused significant disruption to the postal market, particularly over the festive period. The long-running dispute centres around pay, jobs, and conditions.
It has been recently announced that Royal Mail and the CWU have reached an agreement in principle that includes later starting times for deliveries, regular Sunday working, a 10% pay rise over three years, and a one-off lump sum of £500.00

The proposed deal will be put to a ballot of the union members in the coming weeks, and it is hoped that this will be accepted, with the long running saga coming to an end. The proposals made will provide a platform for the stabilisation of the business, which claims to be losing in excess of £1m per day, reduce its impact on the environment through the removal of 18 flights a day, and improve the quality of service for its customers.
