There are many factors to consider when sending bulk mail

Understanding the Requirements for Bulk Mail

In News by Gunvinder Bhogal

Bulk mail is a great tool for businesses and marketers alike to spread their products, services or brand name in a cost-effective and efficient way. However, you can’t just jump straight into a bulk mail campaign! There are a few things you need to consider first – we’ve laid them out there.

Bulk mail; what do you need to know?

As a business or a marketer, we’re sure that we don’t need to tell you that any campaign you plan to run needs careful planning and preparation, but you’d be surprised how often this gets overlooked! Make sure you understand all the requirements below before engaging in any direct mail campaign.

What are you sending?

Think carefully about what you’ll be sending. Obviously, your message will be going out in bulk, so you’ll want to make sure you’re appealing to the right people. Although bulk mail will attract a discount, this could still be a waste of money if you’re targeting the wrong audience!

Think about the best medium to use for your campaign. If you’re a restaurant and want to show people in the local area, then a brochure is probably best. But if you’re a business sending confidential information, then obviously an enclosed envelope is the route to take. You can also think about sending:

Who are you sending your bulk mail to?

As we said above, you need to make sure that you’re targeting the right audience. This means that you’ll need an up-to-date, clean database that holds the correct and relevant information.

This data and information changes regularly, and you’ll need to make sure that you aren’t sending mail to the wrong place or person.

Letter size

Your bulk mail will fall into two categories depending on its size, as listed by the Royal Mail. This is as follows:

  • Small letters – (165mm width, 240mm length, 5mm depth)
  • Large letters – (250mm width, 353mm length, 25mm depth)

Letter volume

You must also send a certain amount of mail for it to be considered bulk. If sending small letters, you’ll need to send over 20,000, while if you plan to send larger letters, you’ll need to mail over 10,000.

Getting everything prepared

Using all of the information above, it’s best that you fully prepare your mail ready to send in bulk for a mailing house. Ensuring that your mail is sorted by correct addressee information will help your campaign to be much smoother and more effective.
