After strike action towards the end of 2009, and months of negotiations between senior figures from the CWU and Royal Mail to establish a working agreement, thousands of postal workers have voted unanimously to back a new deal that will see lump sum payments and a three-year pay deal.
The following update was issued by the Royal Mail Tuesday afternoon, April 20th.
Mail-order businesses, internet retailers and other users, including Royal Mail’s Parcelforce subsidiary, are potentially eligible to backdate VAT reclaims going back four years following an HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) ruling.
Charities that send out bulk mail could see a large rise in their postage costs after an announcement in the Budget that the standard rate of VAT must now be paid on many postal services.
The Liberal Democrats have entered the debate about the future of post offices by saying they would separate the Post Office from the Royal Mail if they gained power.
